Biography

Dr Heriberto Cuayáhuitl a senior research fellow in the school of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. He has an international research profile in academia and industry in the disciplines of language processing, applied machine learning, and human-robot interaction. He received a PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 2009, and has five years of postdoctoral experience in interactive systems, including spoken dialogue systems and conversational robots. His research work has focused on the investigation of machine learning techniques with scalability to complex and real world problems. He has published 50 research papers in these areas. He is the leading organizer of the international workshop on Machine Learning for Interactive Systems (MLIS), and guest editor of the journals ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems and Elsevier Computer Speech and Language. His work in industry was carried out at leading companies in speech technologies (SpeechWorks International Inc., now Nuance Communications Inc.) and artificial intelligence (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence) together with multi-site projects for North American and European customers.
