Biography
Iryna Gurevych holds a PhD in Computational Linguistics from the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany) and was a post-doctoral researcher at European Media Lab and EML Research in Heidelberg (Germany). Currently, she is Director of the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab in the Computer Science Department at the Technische Universität Darmstadt and at the Institute for Educational Research and Educational Information (UKP-DIPF) in Frankfurt. She holds an endowed Lichtenberg Chair in Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing of the Volkswagen Foundation. Her research in natural language processing (NLP) primarily concerns applied lexical semantic algorithms, such as computing semantic relatedness of words or paraphrase recognition, and their use to enhance the performance of NLP tasks, such as information retrieval, question answering, or summarization. She is particularly interested in innovative applications of NLP in the domains of collaborative information management, education, forensic linguistics, and digital humanities.
